Anchor task for a day-one lesson for renaming fractions as decimals for Grade Six.

In day-one lesson, we include prerequisites as well as target skills, so that we are in a better position to plan for subsequent lessons. 

Anticipated methods - (1) know (2) use equivalent fractions (3) rename and divide

(1) I know that half equals five tenths.

(2) 1 half = 5 tenths = 50 hundredths = 500 thousandths

(3) 1 = 10 tenths 
1 share between two = 10 tenths share between two

We use equivalent fractions as  study to discuss five learning experiences.
This is how we structure journal writing.


We talked about the situations in Southeast Asia and how the traditional way mathematics is taught does not facilitate real learning and hence the situation we are now in.
