Bangkok & Chiangmai, Thailand | 18.19 November, 2016
These are the apps I used.
Go to http://3rteachertraining.com/ipad-apps-ban-har-uses/#more-2263 to see the links.
We looked at ways to help students develop visualization ability and ways to improve word problem solving.
The slides will be posted after the Chiangmai Session.
In the primary session, we looked at equivalent fraction and subtraction as well as word problems.
In the secondary session, we started by examining data on student achievement in mathematics. Lowstudent achievement in Southeast Asian countries can be attributed to rote memorization, rote procedures and over-emphasis on computations and basic skills.
We looked at division by fractions, algebra, congruency and word problems on simultaneous equations and probably.

3R Teacher Training website 3rteachertraining.com complied the list of apps I use.
We looked at the CPA Approach and Problem-Solving Approach and used two Stepping Stones lessons as case study. Grade 2 lesson on subtraction using number line was used to discuss how we support all learners especially struggling ones and Grade 5 lesson in conversion between measures of volume was used to discussed how we challenge advanced learners.
Along the way we looked at various things inspired by the questions raised by participants.

Singapore Math, as people call it, started as the government's initiative to improve mathematics learning of students who were not performing well. Hence, the provision of processing time, use of concrete materials and spiral approach are integral fundamentals of mathematics teaching and learning advocated by Singapore's curriculum.
Case Study 1 - we saw the unfolding of an anchor task taken from MiF.
This is a summary of the discussion.
Refer to http://3rteachertraining.com/ipad-apps-ban-har-uses/#more-2263 for links to these apps.
Case Study 2 - we looked at an anchor task from MiF. We discussed target method, accessible method and advanced method.
Case Study 3 - Example from Grade 9 Singapore Textbook.
